Find out who Laura Malo, the survivor of the Hamas attack at the music festival in Israel and how she survived the attack.

On October 7, 2023, Israel was attacked by missiles in the early hours of the day. At the same time, terrorists used paragliders to crash into a music event advocating for peace. Hundreds of people joined the event, which was a happy occasion where they danced, sang, and celebrated life amid bright lights and lively music.

Sadly, this joy was short-lived as a number of innocent lives were lost in an attack carried out by the terrorist organisation Hamas, which is supported by Iran. Following this horrible incident, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared Hamas to be at war.

Who is Laura Malo?

Laura  Malo was born in Colombia but presently lives in Israel. She was one of the hundreds of innocent victims of the terrorist attack on the festival, but she, unlike so many others, narrowly escaped with her life.

How did Laura Malo survive?

Laura, who is now living in Israel but is originally from Colombia, was among the lucky people who managed to avoid the attack during the event.

Laura and her buddy realised that this attack was not like any other Israel-Hamas battle, so they quickly drove away from the site in their car, running for their lives. Laura checked her phone and saw that there was only one way to get to a nearby town.

They arrived at a kibbutz and were relieved to see a military. This relief did not last long, either, as the soldier started shooting at them out of the blue. Laura soon grasped the soldier’s intention to hurt them, even though she was unable to determine if he was a member of Hamas or the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). They swerved away from the firing, realising they were in imminent danger.

After their automobile broke down during their getaway, Laura and her friend had to continue on foot. After navigating challenging terrain, they spent 16 gruelling hours without food and shelter in an abandoned greenhouse. Laura recounted moments when she thought she would not make it through, and she recalled the overwhelming anxiety that surrounded them.

From their hiding place inside the flimsy greenhouse, they could hear the constant fear outside: gunfire, terrorists on motorcycles, and missiles fired nearby. Laura was so afraid she might not make it out alive that she felt she had to give her parents one last call.

Laura and her friend somehow made it through their trauma. She gave thanks to a higher power for allowing her to survive.

Even though they had seen horrific scenes of Hamas terrorists attacking festival goers, they were able to get back to their car when the weather permitted them. Laura called the police immediately, but they were sadly unable to save them right away because of the current terrorist incident in Israel. It was suggested that she hide and remain inside. Laura and her companion set out on a terrifying and uncertain four- to five-hour drive into the dark of night in search of safety.

Laura and her pals had gone to the Tribe of Nova music festival. She demonstrated her strong affinity for music as a DJ. She expressed the hope that she would eventually return to festivals and concerts, even though she understood the need for a break from them after her painful experience.

Laura still reacts anxiously to sirens and the sound of missiles today, living in constant worry. She is still not with her parents, she is not at home, and she is not working. She makes a call for solidarity in the face of hardship in her letter to the Jewish community.

Hamas attack on music festival

On Saturday, October 7, around 260 people were killed by Hamas fighters during a music festival in Israel. Le Monde has recreated this horrific incident by examining and validating the photos taken there. The security and police forces at the gathering were rapidly overpowered by the sheer number of Hamas militants and their weapons.

Including those held captive, the festival attendees who perished make up over 25% of the casualties from Hamas’s initial onslaught on Israel.

According to Tal Gibly, the rockets started at around 6:30 a.m. After thirty minutes, she was running among hundreds of other attendees of an Israeli music festival while being fired at by Gaza terrorists.

The most recent attack occurred on Saturday morning at a number of locations, including the Nova Festival in a remote farmland area close to the Gaza-Israel border. Some attendees were taken hostage, as seen in social media videos being seized by their armed captors.
